Shot clock violation? Or play on?
NCAA-M. A1's try is an air ball, and after it passes the rim, but before it touches any other player, the shot clock buzzer sounds. Immediately afterward B1 controls the ball and throws an outlet pass.
Should the crew blow this dead and award the ball to B OOB? Or should they allow B to play on since they immediately secured the "rebound"? |
Violation
here is your scenario in the books H. shot, horn, misses rim, violation, ball to B on endline unless team B has possession before the shot clock expires, violation |
A.R. 208. A1 releases the ball on a try for goal. After the ball leaves A1’s
hand(s), the shot-clock horn sounds. The ball: (2) Hits the backboard and rebounds directly to A2 or B1 without hitting the ring or flange. Ruling for (2) A shot-clock violation by Team A has occurred because the try did not hit the ring or flange. The referee shall sound the whistle, and the ball shall be awarded to Team B at a designated spot nearest to where the violation occurred. |
Perhaps this is a stoopid question, but...
Where does a shot clock violation occur? Isn't a shot clock violation, in essence, a failure for something to occur? Alright, more practical question :) Where is the "designated spot" in the A.R.? Is it the location where the ball was when the shot clock expired? |
On the pass there is team control, if you think of it that way.
