He was real nice though, and apologized as I jokingly offered my whistle to him. I understand, that this would be totally inappropriate in an official league. So, what do you think?

If you offer your whistle again, be ready for any consequence.
Let "them" be the fool.
How would it look to you if you saw a veteran official do the same in an important game? Childish? Playful?
