Ok JRut allow me to re-phrase.
His actions fueled the perception some people already had about officials - that we cheat.
It does have some sort of validity to it now, wouldn't you say?

I'm sure the bad apples (who get caught) in the NYPD makes the jobs of other police officers a little tougher because perception is now reality.

Here is the point I am trying to make. Based on where I live and the perceptions that are already out there for all kinds of issues, the last thing I worry about from a perception issue of a league I do not work (and likely never work) and an issue with at the levels I currently work will never deal with. People do not bet on high school games where I could make any money if I fix a game. It is not something most high school official or youth official have to concern themselves with. Officiating was already hard enough; it did not get harder because of the actions of a rogue official. I was actually shocked that no one even invoked his name all season in a competitive situation in any of my sports. I also did not hear of anyone where I live having to deal with that similar comment. I also might not be consumed with that perception either, because there were media reports long before I even knew who this official was around here about officials with agendas. I guess it is based on where you stand as an official and where you live.

Peace

I don't think he has made my job tougher. I haven't heard any Donaghy jokes out on the court.

What he is going to regret most is becoming someone's girlfriend.

I guess I say his actions makes the job tougher for personal reasons. Only a few short months ago, I was struck in the face by a coach that I had to toss because he said "I am cheating his kids".

How long did it take for the police to show up?

Some coaches can be idiots and don't need any help in that regard; he probably hadn't even heard of Donaghy.

Show up? I had to go see them, it wasn't like an emergency. It was just an official who got assaulted...

I feel bad for what happen to you, but officials were assaulted, threatened, accused of cheating long before you were hit in the face. Just do a search on this site and you will read all the stories long the summer of 2007 when this story originally broke.

Now I hope you filed charges despite the fact that you are "just an official." No one deserves that at all no matter what your profession is.

Peace

You're absolutely right, but you know how people tend to view things differently once it happens to them.
I did press charges. No need to feel bad for me or what happened though, I took it like a champ
Plus he really assisted in increasing my stock as an official who remains under control at all times.

I do not feel sorry for you, I just want to make sure you can send a message similarly to what the court was doing to Mr. Donaghy.

This is clearly unfortunate and I am not trying to make light of this incident.

Peace
