A first

Doing outdoor wreck league this past Sunday, which I like as games are early, some good ball, and I can work on my tan.

As A is ready to shoot a free throw, I hear a gasp from the courtside crowd, I turn behind me and B player is holding his face. Seems he was punched right across the chops........................by his teammate. The guy on the receiving end was big Croatian, about 6'9" 260 who was swearing at me earlier in a foreign tongue. I told him I know you're swearing at me and you're lucky I don't know Croatian.

Could I assess a T for unsportsmanlike conduct? I'm pretty sure the answer is yes.

Gosh it was weird. We just called time for everyone to chill for a minute or two and resumed play. The teammate who threw the punch just walked away.

You gotta love Sunday morning hoops.

I have to stop you before this gets too far.

It is "recreational league" not "wreck league."

I thought I would save you the aggravation of being trampled on for misspelling this vital word on such an important forum.

Peace

Actually, Rut, he said "wreck", not "wreak", although "wreak" is appropriate for this situation, as in "wreak havoc".

As to his question, I don't think you can assess a T for one teammate hitting another.

Disagree. It's an unsporting act and the rules say that you can penalize unsporting acts. You can also classify the T as being flagrant also, by rule.

Saw a story this yr that alleges, Kobe learned to swear in several foreign languages this year so refs wouldn't "understand" what he was saying...... isn't it great to have all these international players in the league?

PS - Fighting (Fighting) A thread on fighting teammates. Some say T, others say not.......

The dinosaur is correct again. The NFHS has declared that it is the unsporting act itself which must be penalized as some behavior is simply unacceptable in a HS game, and thus it doesn't matter who the recipient is.

Here is a similar situation from last year's NFHS Interps:
2007-08 Basketball Rules Interpretations

SITUATION 13: Team A members are shouting disparaging, racial and/or profane remarks directed toward their own teammates. RULING: Such unsporting acts shall be penalized regardless if directed toward opponents or teammates. (10-3-7b; 10-4-1c)

And I'll save you the aggravation............it's a 'wreck' league. Play on words.

More like a train wreck....... :-)

That's what I have, "Flagrant. Git off my court."
Of course if guns are involved, he can do whatever he likes and I'll git off his court.

I am of the opinion that Kolbe is fluent in six languages, and I am sure he learned truck talk long before "this year".

I once had two coaches from the same team start throwing punches at each other in a girls softball game I was working. They disagreed about sending a runner on third home on a ground ball.

They were both ejected to continue their argument in the parking lot......
