ABA Basketball
There are two new ABA teams coming into my area.
From their website, it appears that it is a minor professional basketball league. Anybody have any information on how to become an official in this league? I searched the website, but couldn't find anything...they do have some interesting rules, though. |
I don't know which ABA team has the better name - the Quebec Kebeckwa or the Georgia Gwizzlies? Maybe we should do a poll. :D

Now if you bring back the likes of Dr.J, George Gervin, George McGinnis, Artis Gilmore, and David Thompson, I could watch it! |
Talk to Tom Chichester. He is the ABA coordinator of officials. I think a search of google would help you to find him as I no longer have that info. He utilizes assignbyweb, he sent me an update as to upcoming camps a week or two ago.

A guy in our association called the games on the radio for the Vermont Frost Heaves--winners of the ABA title in both years of their existence. They are moving with some other teams to another league. Too many foldings in the ABA. Some guys in our association refereed in that league. Some unusual rules and the 3 point line is at a weird distance. [No, Mark, it is not metric.]

The IBL is absorbing a lot of the teams. They have assignor contacts on their web page. Arizona getting a team next year. Please do not confuse this ABA with your daddy's ABA. These leagues are lower than the CBA. |

The ABA is an all-time joke of a league.
Alex J. Walling from Halifax has written a few interesting articles on the league. Here is alink; it's a bit long. http://www.tsn.ca/columnists/alex_walling/?id=232465 |
In my area, potential officials had to pay to go to a tryout camp. Presumably the more you paid, the more games you got.
Sounds fair to me. |

Over here in Lawton, OK we have CBA BB. Is that any better? They won title last year and I was thinking of catching some of their games this year. Coach is Michael Ray Richardson of Knicks fame.
I see CBA has an Albany Patroons (NY) team again. Phil Jackson coached the Patroons to several CBA titles in the late 80's and early ninetys. Current Patroons have a player named Luscious Jordan who I coached against when I coached travel 7-8th graders. Outstanding guard. What a coincidence. |
