Anyway, I had a similar play happen to me at one of my first big-time camps several years back. 2-person game, I was T, ball was shot, my partner blew the whistle for a foul, and I saw the ball bounce high off the rim. Of course the clinician mentioned on the tape that I needed to watch the whole play, because, sure enough, the ball had bounced straight up and back down through the basket. That taught me I need to stay focused on my area a little longer, and not just automatically go looking at the whistle. If we miss something as basic as seeing a ball going in the basket, I think we lose some credibility as a crew. If we stay focused on the basics, it should also be easy to see the other stuff, like seeing whether the backboad slap was a possible block.
