In a league that plays NF rules, what would be the correct call in the following situation:
A1 releases the ball on a try; A1 slams down into B1, who has a legal defensive position. The ball goes through the basket. I called a player control foul on A1 - everyone agreed (adult church league - everyone knows everything, so consensus is rare). Then the great debate took place over whether the basket was good? My partner insisted the basket was good because the ball was released before the contact into B1. I didn't know the answer so I deferred to him and half of the players. Help me out. I can't seem to find the answer in the NF rule book - I am sure it is there, just can't find it. A related question: are free throws awarded after a player control foul when the team is in the bonus? I don't think so, but I am not sure. Thanks for the help this season (our league, which has no real refs, has benefitted from what I have gleaned from this web site and from actually reading the rules).
