Looking for an interpretation of the latest "camp speak", eh?

You already know this but all that it basically means is that you officiate with confidence...and you show it.

Nuthin' has changed but the terminology. It's just someone reinventing the wheel.

Tis the season...

So basically our on court presence, great looking mechanics, staying connected to the play, etc. results in officiating big.

Gotcha, thanks again.

I think there's also a physical element to "officiating big". You can project the confidence that Jurassic talks about by having good posture on the court. Stand tall, don't hang your head, don't lean one way or the other (especially when reporting. I used to do that and got BAD comments about it.)

I've seen guys who officiate almost hunched over. They're concentrating so hard that they move their head forward and it looks awkward. If they simply stand straight and tall, they look sharper and more confident.

Also, if you're a really big guy, you can use your size when some kind of confrontation is about to break out. You can use your size to diffuse the situation by getting in the middle of it quickly.

Beats me...

Anyway, reffing "BIG" also means (at least to me) that you handle whatever comes up in your game - without being an *** about it, you take care of bidness.

Another aspect of it is to "go big" when there is a bang-bang play...really sell the call when needed. I see a lot of officials at camps I work who referee with the same demeanor or intensity the entire game...I just think we need to get into it every now and then and that is part of reffing "BIG" imho...

And Saqs - you're headed straight to hell, pal...straight to hell.

I hope there aren't any buses there. I know Dan will be there, and I get the feeling he likes throwing people under buses for sport.
