Question

If you shoot an airball can you get the rebound and shoot again if it touches no other players or must the ball touch another player before you can shoot again?

On a "try" for goal, team control is lost. Therefore, a player may get his/her own shot even if it is a "airball".

This is different than a "pass" to ones self.

It is in the Officials judgement as to weather or not the "airball" was in fact a "try" for goal.

Note: If a player attempts a "try" for goal and and the ball misses everything, but then the ball bounces off of a teammate of the player that shot and goes into backcourt--what do you have?

No call, remember a team loses control on a attempt on goal.

Had that argument in pickup games a few times myself in the past. Typically, there's no convincing most guys that it's legal, so I would stop trying after the first effort at explanation and just play on. But, "divey" is absolutely right.

This is why you should decide on whose rules you are going to use before these types of games.

If you are using NBA rules, it's a violation.

Under Federation rules, no violation. But no one will believe you.
