Officials and mics?

I was flipping through the NBA playoffs this weekend and noticed alot of the officials wearing what looked like 2 or 3 wireless microphones (not the timers on their belt, but mics and windscreens clipped to the top of their shirt). Is this something to enhance my tv "viewing experience"? Or is it for supervisors to listen to their conversations with coaches/players or something?

I believe the crew chief is always wired to hear the convos. One of them is probably clipped on there for the PTS if the official chooses not to wear a lanyard

if an official isn't wearing a lanyard he'll have two microphones clipped on the v part of his collar. Anything else is there for the TV crews.

The mics are on the shirt for the timing. Blow on your whistle it goes through the mic and stops the clock. With the lanyard they just have wire that runs down to the whistle itself
