Yep - I agree with you 103%.

I'm told that's a good attitude to have.

Sox return the favor by completing a 3-game sweep the Rays yesterday. Lester got the win, but he threw a ton of pitches in only 6 innings. He looked shaky early, but only gave up one run. Kazmir took the loss for the Rays. I think they said it was his first start of the year, after being the DL.

Early candidate for the "What Was I Thinking" award: Dusty Baker. Cincinnati is horrible. Why leave a cushy studio job for the Reds? Bronson Arroyo, who looked so promising in Boston, is now 1-4. I haven't seen him pitch, so I don't know if he's throwing well and not getting support, or if he's just breaking down already. That would be too bad.

Mike Lowell factoid

While watching the Red Sox in Detroit, the Tiger announcers [Mario Impemba and Rod Allen are really fine baseball fans without rules problems] mentioned that Red Sox captain and third baseman, Mike Lowell, has the highest fielding percentage for a third baseman in the history of the game.

Edit: I knew. I called it! Lowell hit a 3 run homerun to tie the game. The man is a Tiger killer.

I hear that was Papelbon's first blown save in 11 tries this year.

..and how did he "really" blow it??
  • An "oopsie" check swing infield hit.
  • An error on Lugo (another weak grounder)
  • A Sac bunt.
  • Another ground out.
  • A broken bat single barely into left

What more can you ask of a closer? But I'll take it!!!

Meant to be wasn't it, CoachP ?

I wonder if the Red Sox defense pumped him up
in any of his other chances.

And now, a few short weeks into the season, the O's and Nats have now settled into their customary positions in the basement of their respective divisions.....and all is right with the world..........or atleast this corner of it.

Greg Maddux becomes the ninth pitcher to reach 350 wins.

Dice-K goes to 6-0. Papelbon gets the save, after blowing his last 2 chances. (And Youkalis is on fire.)

Johan Santana finally gets his first home win for the Mets.

Help is on the way. Carl Pavano should be off the DL by mid-August.
