Sitch today....A1 fouls. We go to the line and have not made the ball available to B1 for her free throw. Table notifies us at this time that A1 has fouled out. At about the same time the A's coach requests a time out. I tell him...you have 30 secs to replace this player, are you sure you want a time out. He says yes. Questions...A) does the coach have to replace his player before he gets his time out? Or B) Can the coach take the time out and then get 30 more secs to replace A1.

NF Book ref please...

Heres what we did...

It was rec....we granted the time out and told the coach to replace the player coming out.

A1 must be replaced before any request for a timeout can be granted to either team (NFHS and NCAA).

Here is how I would have handled it:

1) Inform Coach A that A1 has five fouls.

2) Instruct the Timer to start a thirty second count.

3) Inform partner that A1 has five fouls.

4) If Coach A has not replaced A1 and is still requesting a timeout, politely remind him that he has to replace A1 before any request for a timeout can be granted.

5) After A1 has been replaced, grant Coach A's request for a timeout.

I think that is the best way to handle the situation, because it follows the protocol for reporting fouls, replacing disqualified/injured players, and granting a timeout, as described in the NFHS and CAA mechnics manuals.

That would mean that we couldn't bring a 5th player in!

Lightbulb Nothing

Nothing can happen until the sub is made.

No timeout.

No other Subs.

No FT.

Nothing can happen until the sub is brought into the game.

Peace

Not true. Any other subs who have reported can enter, up until the replacement enters. 3-3-1c Exception

I don't know about Fed. rules, But NCAA says the subs may enter only when the Sub for the DQ player is ready to come in. Is this different than the Fed. rules?

It doesn't really specify. I don't see any reason to wait.

3-3-1c Exception
When a player is required by rule to be replaced prior to administering the free throw(s), then all other substitutes who have legally reported may also enter the game.

We allow any subs who report, prior to the replacement reporting, to enter.

This is another one of those clarifications via test, email, letter, bulletin. I can't remember which. But, they did make it clear, we are to wait til the DQ sub. is ready to enter and then bring all subs on at the same time.

Could be but personally, I don't see any reason to wait. They're sitting there and they're ready to come in. Do remember where you read it?

I agree, bring them in. Now if you are doing the Tenn vs UCon then you probably should wait for the DQ sub. I realy don't think anyone would care. But, i suppose the evaluator's could have something to say.
