I referee at a deaf school. We use words and pointing and hand signs for what color everything that is happening.
What amazes me is how quick the deaf kids stop when a whistle is blown. The hearing kids stop and the deaf kids follow suit. The they watch for the signal, shooting, OOB, who the foul is on. If you have never done a game at a deaf school, you should try it, some of them are real athletes. Beware of the base drum. |

I thought it was going to be young high school boys who really weren't players. Where I got that idea, I don't know. The three games I did were all above the rim with some excellent players. It was a litte funky at times and I had to watch myself after awarding two shots and going for ball after the first miss. I almost caught an elbow in the probiscus. |
