Making Contact With An Official

A first happened tonight! You see it all the time in the NBA and recently in the Virgina Tech game but this was a first in the high school game. Team A calls a 30 second timeout, player a was mad because he got trapped in the corner and wanted a foul, so I go to report the timeout and as im standing there the kid who was mad walks behind me and hits me in the back, not brushed but made me turn. I could not get the whistle in my mouth quick enough to blow the T.

Coach ask for an explination. I tell him, your player hit me right in the back and he says he doesn't believe he would do that on purpose, I tell him I would of thought it was unintentional if he would of said excuse me. But no he hits me in the back then walks to his huddle to listen to his coach.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

First T in the 3 years that I've been officiating I may add varsity or college. What a way to give out the first one

I am going to take a little issue with this statement. When do you see this all the time in the NBA? I think that is a little exaggeration.

Peace

Sorry not all the time, but every once in awhile you will see a player so call "brush" an official. Excuse me

To me that is not a Technical foul. To me that is shower time for the player. cheers!

To me, it's a technical foul that includes a shower. If I think that it was deliberate, his azz is gone.

MO,

Did you eject the player for this? If not, what was your thought process behind only assessing a technical and not considering bumping you to be flagrant?

I quite sure Dave @ MSHSAA would like to know more about the contact once you submit your report to the state. I agree shower time!!

First "T" in three years? You must have a high tolerance for pain

I agree with your first "T", but as the rest have said, he should have been ejected. If you thought it was on purpose, he's gotta go.

As Mr. Monday Night Football says, "It's a gots-to-go situation!"

Isn't this the correct mechanic?

I use this one. It reflects how seriously I take this type of infraction and it gets the message across quite nicely.

Well its his first T and he didnt eject in this situation -- that should answer your question/statement

TWEEEEEEEEEETT!!!! "Flagrant Technical Foul, # so-and-so, contact with a game official, the player is ejected!!" It may not be stated the right way, but it will definitely be enforced the right way. NO QUESTION! This kid is hitting the shower! But . . . that is just my opinion.
