You're not wrong, Doc. Blow the whistle, kid says "I'm ok", he stays. If you blow the whistle and the kid doesn't respond or you see it needs attention, then call the trainer and the kid goes out until the next opportunity to substitute after the clock has started.

Or...which I'm sure Chuck knows...new rule this year, 3-3-5.
"A player who has been injured to the extent that the coach or any other bench personnel is beckoned and/or comes onto the court shall be directed to leave the game. Unless a time-out is requested by his/her team and the situation can be corrected by the resumption of play."
