Double Dribble

A1 is dribbling in the frontcourt. A1 pins the ball to the floor with his right hand. A1 then rolls the ball toward his left hand. A1 then slaps the top of the ball with his left hand causing it to bounce and then continues the dribble. A1 did not move his feet during this sequence. Is there any problem calling A1 for a double dribble?

This happened in a small college game and nothing was called. The coach of B objected and the official explained that A1 did nothing to violate a rule.

By the book, he did not end his dribble and start another one; however, if you pin the ball to the floor, you have ended your dribble. If you pass the ball from hand to hand, you have ended your dribble.

So, the player did double dribble.

Could be called as palming.
The ball came to rest in the dribbler's hand; player then continued his dribble.
