I guess it is just one of those things that sets me off. :mad: It really upsets me to hear a player yell "and one" after he or she shoots a lay-up. Sometimes the ball doesn't even go in the basket. Am I being to sensitive or is my frustration justified. I have given a T for this before when I thought the player was showing up me or my partner. I also really heard about it from the coaches , which makes me think I am making something out of nothing. Any thoughts/comments?:confused:

So if you told a coach to stay in his coaching box and he told you to pay attention to what's happening on the floor, would you think you were making something out of nothing?

Yes to both options.

If the player is really showing you up, then call the T. that's happened exactly zero times in games I've worked. Most of the time it's just habit -- it's not much different from pointing in the team's direction when any contested ball goes OOB.

My vote is being just too sensitive. If you ignore them enough they will stop yelling "and one." :D

Some comments don't deserve a response. "And one" is one of them. Just ignore it. If it is starting to distract you, just ask the person to stop. I just can't imagine giving a T for something like that. "Don't look for trouble, trouble will find you often enough anyway."

Had a game last week where the home team yelled "And One" on their first five or six shots - all drives to the hoop. On the lat one, there actually was a foul. As one partner is reporting and everyone is lined up waiting for the shots, I looked at my C and said something to the effect of "Hey Partner, are you getting tired of hearing all this 'And One' garbage? Cause it's starting to tick me off." Partner smiled and nodded, shooter turned to one of the other players and said "Hey, we better knock it off."

Didn't hear it again that night.:D

I do what Rocky described in situations where I want everyone to know what I'm thinking. If they know if bothers you and they aren't smart enough to stop then do what you have to do.

I used to work with a guy (since deceased - Portland area officials may know to whom I am referring) who as part of his pre-game would tell both coaches, "and I don't want to hear any of that one-one crap".

Had a guy on our crew who joked when someone yelled "and one" He replied "anna two" For you youngsters out there, Lawrence Welk used to say that just about every time before a 'melody' he played.

I do not think that is just an issue of age, some of us would have never watched Lawerence Welk at any age. :D

I am old enough BTW to have seen his show on PBS, I just turned the channel. ;)
