Timing Mishap

We got the classic BJV blow out going on. 20 point lead. team leading has the throw in.

1 second on clock till halftime.
Partner is trail administering a throw in at division line.
Player throws the ball towards his basket and horn goes off while ball is clearly in the air.
So partner has timer reset clock and we do it again.

Common sense wise this was the right move.
Rule book wise I believed we were okay in that we had definite knowledge of how much time to put back on the clock, 1 sec. So i thought we were on solid ground.

Any other opinions on we handled this ?

Sounds good to me. It was too apparent that clock started early. Even in a blowout, I think you did it right.

I think you had it right, assuming the same team got the ball for a throw in at the same spot.

I would add that you should blow the whistle immediately. That leaves no doubt that the ball is now dead during the throw-in and you can fix the timing error and resume with the POI, which is of course the throw-in.

What if the official freezes for a moment, and doesn't blow the whistle until the ball is near half-court? Wouldn't you correct the clock back to 1 sec., and administer the throw-in at half court?

:D

No. By administering at half court you're giving the throw in team an advantage they don't deserve because of the officials error.

Isn't the division line the same as half court ?

But, doesn't the Fed. specifically not allow "do-overs"? And, as Nevada points out, you go to the POI, which, in my scenario, would be at half-court (or the division line, as others have pointed out).

Sorry, that's an inside joke with Scrappy. I've been called a body part that starts with an "a", and I've been told I'm right 2% of the time.

sigh...you would think more people would exhibit the holiday spirit this time of year...
