Is the term "disconsortion"?

Is that the term in the rule book regarding defenders or bench yelling/clapping/talking to a FT shooter during his shot? Disconsort the FT shooter?

Had a kid yesterday begin walking from wing to top of key, clapping his hands as soon as the shooter got the ball....Shooter missed, I blew the whistle and issued a violation on him and that we would shoot again...2nd attempt went in!

Couldn't think of the term the rule book used...was just thinking about it today...

I probably have that word all jacked up...

Thanks in advance for the vocabulary lesson! :D

Henry VIII disconsorted - 5 times as a matter of fact.

Basketball players disconcert. Disconcertion is the term you're looking for.

Would dis-consort mean a queen's divorce? the breaking up of a troup of ships or a musical group? taking away someone's partner, or companion??

The word is disconcert. "to disturb the self-possession of. to perturb or ruffle."

is the signal for this violation the same as a lane violation?

No. The proper signal is to put your right foot in, then take your right foot out, put your right foot in again, then you shake it all about. If it's their second occurrence, you also turn yourself around.

I make this call a lot.

My question was serious one!

For all of those who also signal a travel when moving on a throw in when you are not supposed to.

And the signal for disconsortion is to make a fist with your right hand, stick out your thumb (as in hitch-hiking) and quickly run that thumb going left to right across your throat.

Do you have a youtube video of Henry VIII making that signal? I'd like to know that it's official.

I suppose it depends on who he's referring to. Is it aimed at his "consort"? Because otherwise, it's not disconsortion.

No, it was aimed at a "concert". Barry Manilow was playing. ;)

Hey, that does work! Except I really like his Chopin/pop combination song. Disconsort him after that one, okay!
