I am in Washington State. Here in Washinton State, the girls use a 30 second shot clock. Anyways, here is the situation.
It is a close ball game with about 1 minute left. Team A has the ball in its front court with the shot clock winding down. There is about 30 seconds difference in shot clock and game clock. As the shot clock gets down to almost nothing the girl of team A throws up a shot to beat the buzzer while the ball is in the air. The buzzer never went off. It misses rim and hits the backboard. The shot clock was reset when the ball hit the backboard. Team A player gets the rebound goes back up for a rebound and is fouled. When the official came over to report the foul a discussion took place over this. The officials assked the scorer and timer. The scorer and timer admitted that they made a mistake. The said they should have not reset the timer because the ball did not hit the rim. It should have been a shot clock violation. If you were the official what would you do? |

Assuming the officials knew there was only a little time left on the clock and they were sure that the shot took longer than that period, shot clock violation. (The subsequent foul would then be ignored.)
