I did about 8 games this week, and just HAD to end it with a real bad one yesterday afternoon. Two boys teams (JV level) that my partner and I had worked before and had no trouble with, just decided to come out and REALLY play rough! It was one of the most physical JV games I've ever called. In each half both teams were in double bonus, and yet the coaches were still riding us about fouls that we didn't catch!
My partner and I decided that we needed to really tighten up before someone got seriously injured. So into the third quarter I was watching off the ball and saw two post players shoving each other around. One of them clearly displaced the other (moving him off his stance with a full body push) and I called the foul. Home coach went ballistic! I thought MAN!!! Here we have the coaches yelling at us to get THEIR kids under control and when I see a legitimate foul the guy crawls all over me!! SHEESHH!!! Remind me again why I'm doing this!! |

Friday night game,
both teams start to get physical with about 6 minutes left in the game. One "T" already for a kid telling me to "call the ****ing foul", one for a kid running into a situation we already had under control. Finally as we are getting ready to shoot free throws, I step in and say, "fellas, if you want to be here for another 1/2 hour we can, because right now if you BREATHE on someone it's going to be a foul! GOT IT?!! We go into the lockerroom after the game and my partner says, "Boy, I wouldn't want to get you mad at me!" |

I had one of these games once and we were in the double bonus really quickly. Coach for team A says "Jeremy, you got to give us a break" Then I ask him, "coach, have we missed any calls tonight?" to which he replies, "yes, plenty!!" I then retort, "Well, coach those were your breaks!!!"
