bc violation quiz

Tony, you had a quiz back in a thread in 2003. I printed it and am working thru it right now but am not sure of #10.

Judging from some of the BC threads, it's badly needed.

BACKCOURT VIOLATION OR NOT?

Play #10 - B1 jumps from her frontcourt and while in the air, secures control of the ball. B1's momentum is such that she lands with the first foot clearly in her frontcourt. B1's other foot then comes down in B's backcourt after the first foot was down in the frontcourt. Is this a BC violation? Why or why not?

First you have to understand that B1 is specifically a defensive player. If I remember correctly, that excludes just about every situation except that A last had the ball and hasn't attempted a try.

It does if B was on offense but sam set me straight about the reference to B always meaning defense. I knew that, but it hadn't clicked whilest reading it.

That's why I purposely wrote it that way.

B is always on defense, or as Woddy would say, "the opponent of the team that has the ball!"

So, Tony, is B2 a defensive player in this play? Is this a legal play or a backcourt violation?

1) Throw-in for Team A near the division line in their backcourt (Team B’s frontcourt).
A1’s throw-in is deflected by B1 who is applying direct pressure on A1. B2 jumps from his frontcourt, catches the ball in the air, and lands in his backcourt.
