I'm just about JR's age and last week, I had to explain to my younger son what a "church key" was. Keep in mind that he is a college graduate with a major in opening beer bottles with a plastic lighter.

Church key. Indeed.

It's even easier than that. Set the edge of the cap against the desk, dresser, or night stand, and hold the bottle with one hand. Pop the heel of your other hand against the top of the bottle pushing the bottle down. The cap comes right off, and the damage to the desk is neglible if you use a newspaper.

Somewhere on the internet there's a video of "100 ways to open a beer bottle"
