Actually, I'm guessing the issue isn't the amount of beer emptied out, but rather whether the can was opened in the first place?

Btw, my wife has done used this recipe many times, and the chicken comes out wonderful - very juicy and tender. She even found this porcelain thing in a cooking store that looks a little like a miniature chimney with a wide base, so it's easier to pour the beer in the bottom and it fits better in the chicken. (It also forces you to open the beer can to pour the beer in the bottom...)
