Remember the penalty for an intentional foul on a missed 3-pointer is 3 shots plus the ball.

And, before anyone else asks, yes, the 2-shot penalty applies on a successful 2 or 3 point basket.

Why do you still get 2 shots on a successful basket? This is different to FIBA (oh my what a suprise - NFHS and FIBA disagree:)) where only one shot is awarded if the basket is good.

Because otherwise the opponent would be encouraged to foul the opponent on every three.

Huh....but if they did an intentional (unsportsmanlike in FIBA) foul on a three-point attempt the fould player gets 3 free throws if it misses, or the points and 1 if it is good (plus the ball on the halfway line).

My point was that under FIBA rules, only 1 free throw is shot for any foul committed on a successful attempt - common or unsportsmanlike. This is apparently different to NFHS which grants a minimum of 2 shots regardless of whether the shot is good or not.
