Well I probably blew the call but.....
Varsity Boys... I was trail and near the free-throw line extended and about 1 1/2 ft. inside the sideline.... A's point guard makes an excellent pass to me.... With almost flawless form I caught it.... There was no one near me... The gym went quiet and all the players stopped....
Should I...
A. Put the ball up for a 3 pointer.. (Hoping that my partner notices I'm behind the three point line and gives the proper signal)
B. Drop the ball and get out of the way...
C. Blow my whistle and give the ball to "B"....
Had I been quicker... Ducking would have reduced my choices significantly....

If you take two steps backward, it's B's ball

Rather than take the 3, I'd give a ball fake, drive, and dish. If you got ups, slam it home rather than dishing - it'll make Sportscenter after the game.

But, what if he missed?

A. Put the ball up for a 3 pointer...

Too embarrasing if you miss! (Just like jumping for a wedgie.)

B. Drop the ball and get out of the way...

You've already shown your reflexes are a little slow. You may be unable to avoid the ensuing scrum.

C. Blow my whistle and give the ball to "B"....

This is my practical vote, using the argument the ball would have ended up out of bounds. But I believe there's another option...

D. Whistle a T on A for 6 players on the court! (Assuming you're part of the offense.) ;-)

How about you grab your hamstring, yell loudly, and drop to the floor writhing in obvious pain...in the ensuing rush of medical personnel and trainers, everyone will forget the fact that you caught the ball...after a few minutes, declare "I'm OK, it was just a cramp", and go to the possession arrow...don't know, but it could work!

But I was Open

How about this. If it was a "star player" who threw the pass, give that same team the ball back out of bounds. Or if the best team in the league, give them the ball back due to the preferential treatment were suppose to give to star players or teams.

HA HA, just kidding. Thought I would add some more humor and combine it with the "star player" post from earlier.

That has never happened to me before. But I have been in the Center position and a three is taken free throw line extended and a guy jumps from the lane to block it, only to miss, come down land on me and we go flying into the stands hugging each other.

Gotta love the funnny moments. They are always good stories to tell to fellow officials.
