Off topic - but had to brag

Drove 30 miles each way to watch my Grandson, Tyler, play in the district Little League tournament. His team was down 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth (they play six inning games). He came up with the bases loaded and two out. He hit a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left-center to win the game 6-4. I thought I was watching a movie or something. It was his second homer of the game and he had all six RBIs. Oh yeah, he made a great play at 3rd base in the second inning when he made a running catch of a foul popup and fell into the other team's dugout. Obviously, he was OK.

District championship game is tomorrow night. I wouldn't miss it if David Stern called and asked me to work an NBA summer league game.

Just to brag a little more - Tyler led his YMCA basketball rec league in scoring and rebounding this past season. Plus - he gets exceptional grades. He's going into 8th grade this fall and has his choice of high schools in his area the following year. Coaches are already really being creative in recruiting him without violating any rules. My daughter is referring any inquiries to me. It's a lot of fun. The final choice will be his. He has friends at three of the schools, so any decision he makes will work out socially for him. I insist that's part of the equation. But academics come first, and I've told all the coaches that.

That's pretty okay, Mark !
You keep having fun with that kid.

Congrats mark!

Remind him that officiating is a great part-time gig while in high school! :)

Ah...so that's where all the talent in the family went! :D

Hope he keeps his head on straight and remembers what is important, and what is just a game.

Mark,

You are not going to be upset if he does not go D1 or make the pros are you?

Glad you enjoyed your Grandson just having fun playing a special game. This type of event you described makes sports fun to watch.

Peace

He has to carry on the family tradition. He has an uncle who played pro baseball in the Mets organization (two years AA before an injury) and his father (my son-in-law) did play D1 basketball.

And...of course...I am the captain of the US Olympic Sarcasm Team. :p

Seriously, we're all rooting for him to just have fun.

I checked around at the game and, unfortunately, no one I could find had it on tape. :(

BTW - I was just told today that my granddaughter Lauren (Tyler's cousin) has been selected to enter an apprentice program to learn to be a soccer (there's that naughty word) ref! She is an outstanding player and will train to work little kids games. I'm going to buy her a Fox 40 and a lanyard or finger thingy. When I told my wife I was going to do that, she said I should buy her a pink whistle. I thought she was joking but she wasn't. YIKES!!

Ok, is this pink or purple? Either way, it might look good on her.

As long and he remembers to take his meds unlike his grandfather, his head should stay on straight. :)

I heard the music from The Natural playing as I saw this in my head.

Way to go, lil' Padgett!

Are you allowed to use a word like that in IL? :D

Mark: I can't wait for my grandson to be at that age where I can watch him in sports (he's only 9 months old), and hopefully, he will be as smart as his grandpa.:) He lives right up the road from you in Tumwater, WA. I'm going to see him for a week starting next Tuesday.
