Question

Had a situation come up at one of my son's games where a ref told a player that he could not stand in the backcourt, in the lane while a FT was being administered in the frontcourt. Said he had to stand behind the 3 point line. Remember, the kid is standing in the backcourt.

Has ANYONE heard of this?? For the life of me I can't find it.

You can't find it because it is not there. The rule, 8-1-4, says he must stand behind "the free-throw line extended and behind the three-point line." Nothing else is said.

OMG, I am the Rookie of the bunch but even I knew this one. Any chance there is some weird cherry picking league rule in play here? Weird being the key word.

Bottom line: Ehhhhh. You are the weakest Link...Ms. Ref...please sit down...take off your shoes and whistle...leave them here at the scorers table...and never return.....You there...in the front row......yeah you...the guy with puke on your shoes....you've been letting us know you're the expert...get in here and Ref.

Can you imagine!

Hey Paul, nice to hear from you again. Also remember that there is no requirement for players to stand behind the division line on technical foul throws. This is a myth. The only restriction is the same as on any free throw for players who are not on the lane - above the free throw line and outside the three point line.
