Player Control = AP Throw in?!?

Ok Old Guys...heres another chance to help a rook.

I understand that Player Control doesnt create a free throw sitch...my question is where is this covered in the NF rule book?

Here's what I could find:

4-19-6..."A Player Control foul is a common foul committed by a player while he/she is in control of the ball or by an airborne shooter.

10 "Summary of Penalties for all fouls" (Pg 65, 01/02 Rules)
1. No Free Throws
b. For a Player Control Foul (Alternating-Possesion Throw in)

AP?!? I assumed that on PC, the team who got fouled gets the ball at the POI. What does AP have to do with this? Also, does PC count as a personal and team foul?

I had this call the other night and had to stop my non-certified partner from setting the teams up for 1 and 1. I awarded the team that was fouled a throw-in roughly close to the POI. I dont know if the table recorded the foul to the team and player.

NFHS rule references would be appreciated.

Ah-ha! A rule book reader! Good for you! This one can get hairy if you actually read the rule book.

The simplest solution to your dilema is for me to tell you that the NFHS rules committee made a mistake in printing the rule books. Check their web site, and it will tell you that the excerpt you mentioned above

b. For a Player Control Foul (Alternating-Possesion Throw in)

should not have stated to use the AP arrow.

The rule book on pg. 65 should read as:

1. No free throws:
a. For each.....
b. For a player-control foul
c. For a .......

Also, the PC foul counts as one personal foul and as a foul towards the team total

You are right. It's not an AP throw in. The book must have misprinted that. It is a spot throw in given to the team that is fouled. Good catch.

Does the book say POI? I always thought it said something like spot OOB nearest where the foul occured. I know in this case it would be the same.

The "Summary of Penalties for All Fouls" is the worst written section in the rulebook. Ignore it, stay away from it. ask questions here if you need to, but don't read the Summary.

Ok... I tore out the definitions section of my rulebook. What am I suppose to do next? Now, all I have to do is bring my computer (Desktop, that is) with me for the pre-game, rules review, and conferencing with the Wiley veterans of Officiating.com.

BTW: I offered the "definitions section" to all the coaches. None of them recognized what they were.
