Ah-ha! A rule book reader! Good for you! This one can get hairy if you actually read the rule book.

The simplest solution to your dilema is for me to tell you that the NFHS rules committee made a mistake in printing the rule books. Check their web site, and it will tell you that the excerpt you mentioned above

should not have stated to use the AP arrow.

The rule book on pg. 65 should read as:

1. No free throws:
a. For each.....
b. For a player-control foul
c. For a .......

Also, the PC foul counts as one personal foul and as a foul towards the team total
