About a month ago, I checked a book out from the early 60's about the art of sports officiating. Some of the odd (:)) things under basketball were:

-No 3-pt lane, and the FT circle was wider than the lane.

-Jump balls on all tie-ups.

-Whistles were to be held in the hand at all times, not carried in the mouth.

-Really weird mechanics for switching, if they switched at all (I would have to look for that one).

1)when I started,lane was only 6 feet wide.
2)No possession arrow at all.
3)This is crap.Mechanic was to keep whistle in mouth,just like now.NBA used hand-held whistles.
4)The only time we switched was on foul shots.You basically worked one side of the floor only, and the whole baseline.You worked the right-handed side of the floor,from either trail or lead.
There were also no player control fouls,5 time-outs,bonus was on 5th foul of each quarter(personal fouls only),no coaching box,no Mr.Dressup rules,and a whole bunch of other things-most of which I've mercifully forgotten about.
