It would be a smart move for Coach Donovan.
Sports is totally a "what have you done for me lately" environment. There is nowhere to go but down after 2 straight championships. At some point, Florida will have a couple down seasons and fans will be saying that the game has passed him by. Think of all the coaches who overstayed their welcome. Get out while the demand is high and make your money and before you are pushed out the door.

Not to mention the fact that his entire starting line-up is graduating (or at least out of eligibility, I think) so they're probably not gonna be that good this next season - good time to move on...

He won't last 5 years before he'll be back in college. However, during that time, he'll pick up easily 10 million and then sign a new college contract for 3 million a year -- regardless of how he does in the NBA.
The natural inclination of these coaches is to go somewhere and expect to win. In the past, they've gone to the NBA with full expectations and not winning has hurt some of them -- short or long term. However, now that they all have agents, they are listening to sound advice: CASH OUT NOW. In 5 years there may not be an NBA offer, but with 2 national champ hats on your head, you WILL find a college job, even if its a mid major. 10 mill in the right investments can easily generate 500K a year (in some cases with low or no taxes) forever in free cash flow without touching the corpus. That's financial security for anyone, even those in the high brow leagues. |

Scabby,
You should have included a link to a sneaker outlet in China to make this thread even more worthwhile. But, I still love it which makes me say... MODS!!! Lock this thread now before it is despoiled by posters I disapprove of!!!

Even though nobody seems to care about this topic, I agree with Texas Aggie. It's like a kid coming out of college after his freshman year. College is probably a better fit for him, but the money is there now. So you have to take it now. Unlike the college player, Donovan will end up back in college and will probably do a great job after doing a lousy job in the NBA. |
