My internet has been down for 45 days, they finally got me up and going today, sure missed you guys.
Had my first varsity games last Friday night, sure was a little nervous. Two good matchups too. The games went well had a great time, off last night but get to work Thursday and Saturday in a JV tourney and Friday night in Varsity. Got beat on the jump ball in the girls game right off the bat when B controlled the tip I started one way they lost the ball to A in backcourt, had to come all the way back. Then when I called my first foul, I announced it loudly, "white 55 push" then headed by my partner towards the OB spot, he smiles and whispers "report it to the table". After that I had a laugh and told myself to relax and have fun and it went fine. Another funny at the end of a good boys game, home goes from up 15 halfway through the third to within two with 3 minutes to go, no timeout as visitor forces several turnovers and starts hitting the three. Home gets a bucket or two and we have a 6 point or so game with 2 to go when a visitor boy gets stripped and during the loose ball scramble he ends up on the floor. Home kid grabs the ball passes it off to the outlet and starts up the floor. The kid on the floor kicks him trying to trip him. Easy intentional call, except I called it with such emotion that when I banged by arms together I bruised by left forearm. I now have a three inch by 1 inch purple bruise to show off. The visiting (and losing) coach seemed to want explanations of several calls, "what did he do" on an illegal screen call, and the intentional. I gave him brief explanations when possible (only when he asked of course), and after the game he came all the way to the free throw line to catch us and shook my hand and said "great job". That is one thing I have felt I needed work on in the past was communication with the coaches and to a lesser extent the players. His comment sure meant more to me than the home (and losing) coach in the girls game who, after I called a travel on the other teams point as she slashed through the paint for a layup, says as the other coach is glaring at me "great call, great call, I saw it" I said "thanks coach, but you're not helping". That was one call I wanted back, but they won the game so it wasn't pivotal. [Edited by devdog69 on Dec 13th, 2001 at 11:13 AM] |

Quote:
When I was a little girl, I cut the tip off of the middle finger of my right hand while playing with a folding chair. Now even when the nail is trimmed down to the quick, it sticks out above the top of my finger. The first time I gave a T to a coach, it was a very emotional situation, and I banged my hand down and actually cut the palm of my left hand! I went home and practiced using my right hand on top so this wouldn't happen again... juulie |
