Don't get it.

I don't think age has anything to do with it. They're both sports psychology terms.

BIRG = basking in reflected glory.
CORF = cutting off reflected failure.

Fans often show this when talking about their favorite teams. Last night, O's fans might have said "We won 9-8!" while Sox fans might have said "They lost 8-9."

Good Lord, Rocky, they're 1 game out of a playoff spot with a month to go. Anything can happen.

Repeat after me;

He's got high hopes
He's got high hopes
He's got high, apple pie in the sky hopes

Think of yourself as the little ant with the rubber tree plant.

Michigan still has funny helmets.

Appalachian State is not eligible to receive votes in the AP Top 25 poll.

Appalachian State is not eligible to receive votes in the AP Top 25 poll because the school is not in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

This seems to be the same AP article, but there are a couple of small differences.

What a silly rule. If they are one of the top 25 teams in the country, then who cares what division they play in?

BTW, this must be a new rule as I know of several teams in years past that earned a top 25 ranking while playing at the 1-AA level.

Years ago, Portland State (Div 1-AA at the time) had an incredible team. In fact, they won one game 103-6! Neil Lomax was the QB. I would have loved to have seen them in a major bowl that year.

Are we still in the baseball thread?

Really? They stated on ESPN today that never before had a 1-AA team defeated a ranked 1-A team.

Neither is Michigan after their performance today. :p

What does the validity of that statement have to do with mine?

It happens quite frequently that one ranked team does not face any ranked opponents during a season just because of its schedule and conference affiliation.
