GV last night #1 in the state vs. #5. Pretty good game. A little sloppier than it should've been for that level.

But I thought some of our old fogies would like the fact that the crowd used BOTH of the "Find a rope, find a tree. . ." and the "I am blind, I am deaf. . ." chants. They had a real appreciation of history, apparently. (Of course, they also used the less creative "Buuuulllllll-@@@@" chant.)

Last night, some old guy on the front bleacher was on me from the get-go!

As it happens, in the 3rd quarter I found myself with a throw-in directly in front of him during a timeout. He was merciless! I turned and calmly asked, "Have you considered asking the Lord Jesus Christ to become your personal saviour?"

He didn't say another word the rest of the game.

You must have been at the same game as I was. I called the #2 defending champs AAA Girls, VS #10 in the state. I got all of those plus "we're missing a good game", "Do you know what traveling is you're blind", "do you want my glasses". And even more. Oddley enough I enjoyed all the names...

I had a guy like that one SEASON. I ignored him and he was merciless and ignorant of any rules changes made in the past 15 years. He kept holding up his hand with several fingers. He was a about 10 different schools and I wondered if he had been following me around. Finally one night as I was about to inbound for the 3rd quarter he was hounding me again and I turned and asked him what his problem was and why he always had his hand in the air. He told me that was the number of calls he believed I had screwed up on and "owed" him make-up calls for. He then asked why I had made a specific call the way I had. I told him it was a new rule change that had been in effect for a year. He asked if we could continue the discussion following the game.

Turns out he was not an a$$ at all - just wasn't privy to the rule changes. He loved BB and went to many schools to watch the games. He preferred that over TV. We've had many conversations since then. I don't ususally say anything to fans during a game whether they are complaining or complimenting - but I'm glad I did that night. I now look for him sitting at midcourt at all my games!

He only used one hand? . . . Sound like you weren't doing too bad.

Hopefully he isn't related to Glenn Close--or the female astronaut who just got arrested in Orlando.
