You're lucky that I considered soccer! :)

In all seriousness, I think that there is also a lot more calls made by officials in basketball that have a direct affect on the game. Sure, there are big calls in football, baseball, soccer, etc. -- but in basketball is it a constant presence of calling/not calling fouls and violations.

Couple that with the fact that the fans are right at the edge of the court (far too often literally in some gyms!) and you have a heated environment.

I do scoring for my junior high games (I'm 14 and had to take a test for the school and officials so i could work the clock) We have a closet right behind the score table for equipment. After halftime the refs usually bring me thier jackets and such and we keep it in there. for them. At the end of the game they check the book and clock and sign out. Then I escort them the back way out of the school in a calm manner. Now there was one game last year where a player had 2 techs and i buzzed the ref to make him aware of the situation and the coach of the oppoising team got a lil frustrated. I've also had arguments between our record keeper and opposing records keeper when we've got the official books for the game. Plus the lady has been doing it since i can rember (she does biddy too) so I like getting out of the gym as quick as possible. I ususally wait for teams to shake hands clear the board, pack up and show the refs out our just show the refs out and let someone else pick up.
