What Is Wrong With Coaches

As you all know I am still in highschool, and well I have sorta been the goto guy if you will the day after games with kids comming to me asking about diffrent situations that happened and why they were called like they were. Well today the Varsity coach came to me and asked me to come sit on the bench for Friday nights game against a rival. When I asked why he said he wanted to be able to quickly ask me about situations so if the "refs blew it he could inform them politly" I quickly told him there was no way in hell I was sitting on his bench for this reason. I can just see where this is going, and it was not headed down a good path. Guess I'll be in the stands watching the refs work as usually happens.
Does this happen any where else that you know of? It is just so stupid.

I'm glad you didn't let him sucker you in. You would have been in a no-win situation.

I do have a friend that is still an official but runs the official scorebook for the school his daughter graduated from (she is playing a D1 program now) when he is in town and not officiating. He would tell the coach in so many words when to not complain because the official knew what they were talking about. I also know they would talk often about calls and situation. It did help the coach out and he would realize when to let something go. Now I am not suggesting you do that, but it is not a first to have some advice from a coach. I do not know if you should sit on the bench, but I would not have a problem with talking to a coach every now and then if I am not going to work their games.

Peace

I'm disappointed in you my young friend.

You can charge him a game fee and just say "they got it right" whenever he comes to you with a question. If they didn't get it right you just say you didn't see the play.

And use your time on the bench productively...like talking up that cute cheerleader you've had your eye on... "yeah, I'm like a consultant to the coach. He needs me here to help him out with the rules. But I'm sure I'm not getting paid as much as you are...what's that? You don't get paid?...oh. Anyway, what are you doing later?"

:p

I would have got into more trouble and been able to talk my way out of more trouble if I knew then what I know now. Basically, more fun would have been had for all! :D

There is a Catholic School around here that has a "big-time" official that sits behind the home bench and critiques the work of the officials for the coaches (JV & Varsity). It was mentioned at an Association meeting but this guy is well connected, so nothing was done about it.

Nothing like throwing your brothers (& sisters) under the bus.
