This has come up before. You are correct in reference to the goaltending and basket interference rules as striking the backboard is not part of either rule.
The purpose of rule 10-3-6 is to penalize intentional or deliberate contact with the backboard. This rule has a case play, 10.3.6. on page 70 of the case book. Make certain that you also read the 'COMMENT' on page 71 as well. KDM
