Off topic-BCS Congrats

Congrats to Boise State and the WAC for winning the Fiesta Bowl. Hopefully with this one and Utah's in 2004, BCS will pay attention to mid majors in football

What a whale of a finish! Some great play calling by Boise State.

BTW, Utah in 2005, not 2004.

That was a phenomenal game! Probably the most exciting college football game that I've seen in the past five years.

Now here's another stat for the big boys from the power conferences. The WAC, a non-BCS conference, went 3-1 in bowl games this year.

BSU 43, Oklahoma 42 in OT
San Jose State 20, New Mexico 12
Hawaii 41, Arizona State 24
Miami (FL) 21, Nevada 20

Only a very athletic interception by Miami on their own 36 yard line with 20 seconds left prevented Nevada from probably kicking a winning field goal.

The little WAC was nearly 4-0.

For the record

I was at the Nevada game against Miami. I stayed at the Miami hotel-pure coincidence- but fun to be around the team and it's supporters for a couple of days. I am also a mid major supporter and I was by no means shocked that Boise State won.

I was at a Utah/Georgia Tech game last year when the Jackets were ranked #20 in the nation. Too lazy to look up the final of that Emerald Bowl but needless to say the 4th quarter was filled with chants of "overrated" from the fans in red.

For fans of Silver State girls basketball I saw Diamonte Ranch destroy Dayton at Diamonte Ranch. I didn't realize Nevada used 3 man crews. I thought for that game 3 man was a little overkill.......

We do and it is, but do you really think that they would let us work three on only the boys games?

If you can make it down, there is a boys tournament at Reno High this week. I have the 6:30 games on Wed and Fri.

In our AAA (large schools) conference we work 3-man for boys, 2-man for girls.

Our state happens to follow a little piece of legislation known as Title IX.

It appears the only requirement here in regards to that is that the officials get paid the same fee for Boys & Girls games.

Why is it overkill? Are the games not better officiated with 3 officials? Oh wait, this rant is a thread I started a few days ago....never mind.

What has the game fee got to do with treating girls fairly?

Title IX addresses giving girls the same opportunites and benefits as boys. If boys have access to the weight room, then girls should too. If the school provides uniforms for the boys team, they must provide them for the girls. If the school provides three officials for boys games, they should provide three officials for girls games.

Why do you provide three officials for boys? Because it's a better officiated game. Your situation is a Title IX action waiting to happen.

Title IX has nothing to say about the quantity or quality of officials.

Nothing.

Don't ask me, I'm not a lawyer nor have I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express lately. All I know is the various games fees for the different conferences and private schools are always the same for Boys as they are for Girls. Whether it be $60 for AA, $70 for AAA, $55 for one school, or $60 for another. But, with one exception, the only 3-man we do during the regular season is AAA Boys. The exception is a Single-A school where we do 3-man V/JV doubleheaders for both Girls and Boys.

Know what's really dumb. In the post season tournaments AA does 3-man all the way through for Girls & Boys. But the AAA tournament, the Girls 1st-round gets 2-man but then the Semi-finals & Finals get 3-man.
