". . . A player who has been injured to the extent that the coach or any other bench personnel is beckoned and/or comes onto the court shall be directed to leave the game, unless a time-out is requested by, and granted to, his/her team and the situation can be corrected by the end of the time-out." The rule says nothing about actually tending to the player. You are adding that criterion yourself. According to the rule just being beckoned and/or coming onto the court warrants the sub situation. Don't put your personal interpretation into this rule. The NFHS has specifically asked officials NOT to do that in POE #5 this year. "Officials need to be aware that personal interpretations of the rules have a negative impact on the game. The rules are written to provide a balance between offense and defense, minimize risks to participants, promote the sound tradition of the game and promote fair play. Individual philosophies and deviations from the rules as written negatively impact the basic fundamentals and tenants of the rules." |
