ejection of a Parent-Fanboy
I was doing a varsity 3 man game at a Large tournament in central Va. Team A was winning by 40 points, referee in the Trail made a foul call far side from the table. A parent that was keeping stats was sitting in the first row of the bleachers. he obviuosly didn't like the call and jumped real high off his seat and threw the clip board on the game floor. My partner who made the call didn't see this happen. After he made his report to the table on the foul. I called my partners and discussed the situation. we all agreed that it was un called for his reaction to the call, we had him ejected. My partner who is a veteran official after the game went out to discuss this issue with the person to explain that we could have pressed charges against him for being disorderly conduct. We obvioulsy didn't. Do any of you agree with the ejection?

Agree with the ejection? Duh...YEA!
Agree with going out to discuss the situation with him after the game...NOPE!

Yes, he deserved to be sent home. However, I would NOT have gone out and talked to him afterward. He knows what he did wrong, and if he doesn't, shame on him for not being knowledgeable about sportsmanship!
Remember, what goes on INSIDE the boundaries is under YOUR control, what goes on in the stands in under the control of game administration. |

The ejection is a person thing. If you felt that was the only way to handle it, I will trust your judgment. You were there, I was not.
But to talk to the guy after throwing the guy out of the game, why would you do that? There is no reason to do this and you could have something escalate. Throw the guy out and go home afterwards. Peace

Even if that guy was a personal friend of your partner, the discussion should not have happened at the site. Two or three days later in a restaurant or other public place (in case there's a need for witnesses!).

Someone sitting with the fans jumped up & threw his clipboard to the floor after a call and you threw him out of the gym?
Not something I would do. And then your partner went & explained WHY he was thrown out?? Geeze.... not good.
