Where is Mr Annoying Grammar Guy? Aside from that, NH wears 'em. Maine wears 'em. We wear 'em here in VT as an alternate.

I still like the stripes. Zebras are striped. Jack a**ses are gray. I choose to think of myself as a zebra, but my wife and son may tell you a different story.

Been wearing them in central Florida for two seasons with state blessing. I don't like them...we look different than other associations, but it's not in my primary so I'll swallow my opinion.

In Minnesota

I sent an e-mail to the Associate Director of the MSHSL regarding the approval of grey shirts. Here is his response.....

"Hi Tom -- The grey shirts have not been recognized or approved by the National Federation. Minnesota also has not made this change. Our philosophy on this one has to be a wait and see. We don't want to go that way too soon and then find out that other states and other levels will stay with the Black and White stripes. Personally I am not against it, but for some reason this has not been approve for use at the college level, or in very many states."

That's the way it is....in Minnesota

Striped shirts were originally picked as the standard for officials for a very particular reason. It's hard to confuse stripes with the color of the players' shirts out on the court.. Wearing grey simply negates that reasoning imo.

I'm not really a traditionalist....just saying.

That's a nice little nugget of information JR. I had never heard the reason for the stripes. Thanks.

Isn't this the state that has gone to 18-minute halves?

Minnesota Basketball

Not recognized or approved by the NFHS. Other states have stayed with 16 minutes per half. . .

Why wait on the shirts?

Why don't we have stickies with a FAQ thread so this can be handled in one place?
IAABO 157 (Maryland Bayside) has also been wearing grey shirts as an alternate for the last 3 years.

IAABO has been selling grey shirts internationally through suppliers since the 1960's.

IAABO has been selling grey shirts in the USA and internationally through suppliers since the 1960's. I still have a very old IAABO shirt- from when they were plain grey with navy trimming instead of grey with black trimming. Yes, they had byron collars then too. Ooooogly!

Does IAABO actually sell officials' shirts? I think the suppliers sell the shirts and IAABO merely provides the patches (for a fee, of course).

You're correct....again!

Yea, verily, you truly are wise beyond your years.

I would expect no less from a Yankees fan of your stature though.

I shoulda clarified that. I always bought equipment from a supplier way back when I was a member. They supplied or put the patches on themselves. IAABO just determined the main and trim colors, and style, of the the shirt. I still have 2 old, different colored/styles of patched IAABO warm-up jackets somewhere too. The oldest one has to be at least 40 years old. Probably still fits though.

I officiate in SE MN and we do not wear greys. I did do one game with grey but it was between a WI school at a MN school. My partner had an extra that fit me.

Yes, we have 18 min halves, we also have the use of TV monitors in specific situations at State tournament semi & final games. Despite our non-Fed changes in these areas we have not gone to grey.
