Helping players up Just curious the current school of thought about helping players to their feet. I have noticed in the NBA that this is a fairly common practice. I was told about 5 years ago - HANDS OFF. Are we too worried about getting sued? Is the practice ok in the NBA and maybe NCAA but not ok in NFHS? |

My opinion is do not offer your hand unless you know the player will take it. Looks pretty bad when you're standing there with your hand out to help & the player gets up on his own & walks away from you. I quietly ask if he wants help, if he stretches out his hand I'll help. If he doesn't...well, who cares. |

In my non Political Correct world, Sure its OK its just a game. If your standing next to the player and not observing any crazy stuff getting ready to happen offer the player a hand. |

I do it all the time in football. Not often in basketball, but I don't see a problem with it. Besides, usually if a player is on the ground, I'm busy going to the table to report a foul. :D |

No We have been told absolutely not. You wouldn't want to be the one to help someone up and in the process dislocate his arm. Why take that chance. |
