Question

I just returned from camp, and the evaluation that I received from the camp director seemed to be a very good one.I am a varsity High School official and was told at camp that I can go to the next level! I went in to camp with a goal, and that was to find out if I had what it takes to go to the next level. What I would like to know is what is considered a good evaluation for a official who would like to work Division 1 basketball.

Love2,
I would guess a good evaluation would be a letter from a college assignor that asks you to "work these college games for me".

As Mick was eluding to above, the best evaluation you can get after a camp is a contract. Be careful with the verbal "you can ...". I've known commissioners of major conferences to tell 90% of the campers this so they continue to come back to their camp and, oh yeah, continue to pay the $$$ to attend.

Good luck

Have the assignor put his $$ where his mouth is...

Ask him for a contract!

You may already know this, but "the next level" for you is not Division 1 basketball. The next level for you is 2 or 3 years of JV college and JUCO basketball. The level after that is 3-6 years of Varsity Div 2 and Div 3 college basketball.

This is not to discourage you from your hope of working D1 (it's my hope, too), but just to put your "next level" in perspective.

Chuck
