Another article on the weird & whacky world of "amateur"
basketball. At least they didn't wait until the kid
showed up before telling him he should have stayed home.

He should do everything he can to get enrolled at their biggest conference rival, then beat the crap out of them on the court.

I am torn on the issue.

Yeah it sucks that they wouldn't admit him, but I respect the university for not admitting him. If he was not a basketball player, would he be accepted or rejected? Judging by their website info, he was no where near close to being the caliber of student they admit. He should have seen that and either got his grades up higher, or scoped out other schools.

If he is that good he should enroll somewhere else and walk on. If he wants to prove himself so bad, do it.

As has been said many times, learning starts at home...
in the back yard catching ground balls, throwing strikes, and running pass patterns between the trees, shooting hoops between the roses and the road, reading and appreciating music between the TV and the computer.

Are we not all too soon old and too late smart?

I agree with this, but then he should not have been told in the first place that he qualified, and then, "...Oops! Guess the coach didn't hear about the new rules..."

The coach not told about the new rules?!?! give me a break!! This is just plain mean to the kid. There is some other issue that hasn't been mentioned here, and the kid should not be the pawn in some game he's never heard of.

Jules- The kid looked at the web site and saw that he didn't pass muster. I don't think it is mean, I think it has taught him to be more responsible. I know when I was looking for a school I made darn sure I knew what would or would not make me eligible for admission. In fact enrollment is so high at my old school they are now analyzing final semester grades. If you drop at the end you are dropped (I would have been screwed).
