Boys Freshman AAU, spot throw-in for A1 on his baseline. He jumps up and down a couple of times, and B coach starts shouting "traveling."
No, this isn't the first I'm talking about, especially in AAU.
I'm L, administering the throw-in, and shake my head as I watch the play to let the coach know I see the play and disagree with his call.
He shouts it a couple more times and lets it drop until the end of the quarter. During the quarter break, he comes up and apologizes for yelling, and says, "but he was traveling."
"He can do that, coach. Traveling rules don't apply on the throw-in. He just has to stay within the three foot spot."
"Really? Did they change that?"
"No, it's been that way for a long time."
After a little more pleasant back and forth, he says, (here comes the point of the topic) "Thanks. I learned something tonight."
It's a good thing I'd just bought a new smitty, or I may have dropped my whistle onto the floor.
