Last evening, a player for team A played a partial JV contest and was used for the varsity game afterwards. The opposing coach from team B noticed the player from team A possibly participating too many quarters. They checked the books, and yes, he had too many quarters.

Today the state activities office said that the offended team A that won will have to forfeit the contest.

Question, what is a referee to do at the time when that occurs again, now knowing that it will be a forfeit if a player from team A mistakingly participates, that is leading by 30 plus points in the fourth quarter Just play it out?

Shame on the coach and score keeper for not managing the quarters.

Thanks in advance, you all are wonderful!

Referee doesn't get involved in this, not our responsibility. We would not stop the player from playing.

Agree 100%. Our state association policy on this is very clear - the officials have neither the responsibility to monitor it, nor the authority to intervene.

Your sitch was handled exactly correctly. The opponent of the offending team appealed to the state organization, and the team with too many quarters was disciplined from the state. Refs don't get involved.

When I've had this come up in a game, I've gotten both coaches together and explained that the rule is enforced by the state. Let them worry about it.
