I have copy of Assignment Secretary for my PDA and am trying to update it. I went to the web site but it is now a casino site. Anyone know if they simply moved or just shut down shop???

Thanks for your help

The guy who wrote it (his name was Rick, I believe) moved states, changed jobs, and generally got pretty busy. I pinged him a year or two ago about it, and I believe he said he was no longer maintaining the software. I had started to write something for the PC (with an eye towards adding a Palm component too), but never got it finished. If there's a lot of interest, maybe I'll dust it off and get back to work on it

What kind of software are we talking about? I've never used Assignment Secretary. I'm currently working on a web based (php) evaluation / directory / assignment program. And I also have a palm based evaluation program on deck for my next project. Since both of these will be under a BSD or GPL style license theres no real reason to duplicate efforts. I went looking for similar stuff (didn't look too hard) and didn't find much so I decided to write my own, who would have thought somebody else had the same idea?

So Back in the Saddle, what exactly are you working on?

I haven't posted in a while, but yes I am the author of "Assignment Secretary." I had to drop the "Officials Software" web site because of some job changes etc...

It is a Palm program that lets you input your assignments and keeps track of different information. The key component is that you can update your Palm datebook directly from the program.

I am no longer selling the software. If anyone is interested in getting it, then drop me a note and I will send it to you. I will not be supporting it or updating it.

Essentially a PIM for officials: Calander, finances, contacts and game journal. It is a desktop app, so the data entry is much easier than any Palm app. However, it doesn't boast the same portability. So I am contemplating creating a Palm conduit and Palm app as part of the package. Possible future plans include a way to link to popular assigning packages to import games directly into the system.

Sounds good, how about a web based conduit for guys on the road? Or the palm idea would work too. If you could use some help, let me know, I'd be more than happy to help out. Sounds like a great idea.

Try http://www.assignmentmaker.com

You own it, it resides on your machine(s), with an optional publish function if you need a web portal.

Tentative/Confirmed email model, with full optional paper communication, if needed.

Assignment Maker seems very similar to what our state is using for assignemnts now. I'm not really looking for an assignment program, I'm developing more of a web based portal for our association. With everyone's contact info, a forum, and an evaluation system. Along with whatever else I decide to add in. It would be great to have a palm based app to go w/ the evaluation system, so I thought about developing that too.

You do realize there are already portals which would do pretty much what you want after a little customization?

Yup, but I'd much rather make one myself. Now that my season is about over, I need something to do with all my free time. Plus I figure if I have the time and have the skills why not do it myself? And when I'm done I'll release it under the GPL so anyone can take it and use it and make improvements on it for free.

If you are interested in Palm programming or if anyone else is interested in Palm programming. The tool I used for my app is simple. I am not a programmer and this program was easy to use, understand and cheap.

Powerful and easy to use WYSIWYG platform for fast development of Palm OS applications.

They also have a conduit piece to hook to a pc and a ton of features.

Goodluck
