White makes a break for the basket. Red is guarding all the way down. White puts an elbow into Red. Red falls, tripping white. I call Player Control.

White coach said it was a bad call. Anyone here have a problem with it?

It's hard to tell without watching it, remember you are describing what you saw, the coach was probably arguing a different view.

By your description it sounds like PC.

Odds are good that first of all, the coach couldn't see the elbow, and second of all, wouldn't care. Again, hard to tell without seeing, but if initial contact was the offensive elbow, that's the call.

How did you call it?

Was it a normal whistle, fist, really passive PC signal and no vocalization?

Or.

Did you give a blast, give a strong fist, close with a strong PC signal saying, "OFFENSE!"...that last part was just for you MTD...?

From how you tell it, it seems like a PC to me, but I'd have to be their to say for sure.

Rita -- This is a chance to work on your presence, and your self-confidence.

You whistle it immediately, before white hits the deck. You signal strongly, vocalize loudly and firmly, and report calmly and with lots of conviction. When the coach questions, you say, "Coach, the elbow was first."

And when I'm in this sitch, remind me how to pull this off.

I give a good strong blast with the NBA strong fist; I then give myself a headache slapping the back of my head with the hand I had made a fist with while pointing toward the defensive team's basket and bellow out the old women's college "THAT WAY!" But never OFFENSE!

I've turned into a pointer. I save the hand to the back of the head for when I report to the table. No clue why.

Like others said, hard to tell without seeing it. At least you went with something on an ugly looking play. Half of the coaching staff and half of the gym is going to be upset with this one. Call it strong, report it, and move on. On this one, after I do the PC mechanic at the bench, reporting, I will often add the "throwing out the arm" mechanic to communicate with coaches etc.

I'm with Rich, I am just a pointer and save the hand behind the head for the table.

I can't believe Mark is using the fist, for being such a rules anal guy he's using unauthorized mechanics.

NBA fist?

NCAA woman's, "That way!"?

Just where are those things in the NFHS manual?

Lots of comments about your whistle here. Did you give a good sharp WHISTLE? I've found it makes a ton of difference if you do. Sounds like you called it right!

When an officials signals for the clock to be stopped, he raises a closed fist for a foul and an open hand for anything else. I guess I am still old school in that regard.

Strong whistle. Slap the back of my head hard enough to hurt. Turn and say to coach "I had an elbow," as I move toward table to report. Come back to be trail and he makes bad call comment.

Thanks guys.

Rita

That's not what you said, you said, "NBA fist," which sure sounds like a punch.
