Does the shot have to draw iron before the 3 second count is reset or is just an attempt required.

3 seconds requires team control, team control ends on a shot. So once the shot leaves the shooters hand, the count stops.

I convinced that some fans cry about this only because they can actually count to three and want to make sure that other people know this. Most fans of this type will never say anything about a 5 second violation, and their eyes glaze over at the mere mention of a 10 second.

Just a shot is required, even if it's an ugly shot. Same rule applies to a shooter recovering his/her own air ball shot, it's not a travel if the official sees it as a try.

While the volunteers ar teaching the fans about 3 seconds.... remind them the three second count restarts after EVERY attempt.

You can stand in there all afternoon if the ball keeps going up.
